All Over Manhattan

Tony and Ben Take Manhattan.
Follow along as we blog from the Starbucks in Times Square, the Starbucks in Little Italy and the Starbucks near the Empire State Building—y’know, just like all real New Yorkers.

7. “She Was Hot”

NYC reference: “New York was cold and damp / TV is just a blank / Looks like another dead end Sunday”

I was prepared to hate this video.

It’s from 1983’s shaky Undercover—we’ve already learned to be wary of videos from that album—and Broadway siren Anita Morris doesn’t exactly burn up the screen¹ as the titular “she.” However, once I got over the terrible, terrible effects² and the unbelievable staging³ I couldn’t help but love the video’s over-the-top campiness because the song is just too damn catchy. Ditch the poppy, too-crisp production and revamp the distracting chugga-chugga guitar fills and this could actually be a top-notch Stones song. Here’s hoping this coming New York Sunday is neither cold and damp nor dead-end!

1. I was going to say “pull an Inglourious Basterds” but the necessary ‘Spoiler Alert’ and everything seemed a bit much. Whoopsie.
2. The wavy camera transition, the “Wicked Witch,” the two-second cigarette. I could go on.
3. Why does Mick have an ultra-modern apartment-looking bedroom with a flamboyant window in a faux-Victorian mansion in (presumably) New York City? I suppose he could afford a setup like that but, geez, The 80s! Also, do all the Undercover videos need to include people watching TVs playing the video they’re in? What’s with that?
